An exhibition in 1905 at the Paris gallery of Eugène Blot celebrated two aspiring talents: Camille Claudel (1864-1943) and Bernhard Hoetger (1874-1949). Common to both sculptors was the endeavour to gain creative recognition by pulling away from the master of French sculpture, Auguste Rodin (1840-1917). In Paris, the cradle of Modernism, both this Frenchwoman and the German ten years her junior developed an artistic vitality that drew international acclaim at the time and continues to resonate today.
A co-operation between the Paula Modersohn-Becker Museum, Bremen, the Alte Nationalgalerie, Berlin and the Musée Camille Claudel, Nogent-sur-Seine.
